California courts report traffic safety violations (TSV) as convictions on your driving record. If you are eligible and complete a traffic violator school course as you’re doing now with Driving University, then the conviction will be masked on your record. Once a conviction is masked on a driver’s record, it will not become unmasked nor charged to a drivers record as a point violation. (OLIN 2011-08 TSV)

A traffic safety violation conviction will not be masked if any of these is true:

  1. A previous traffic safety violation dismissal or conviction has occurred within the past 18 months.
  2. The current conviction counts for more than one point.
  3. The driver holds a commercial driver license or was operating a commercial vehicle at the time of the violation.

If either of the above bullets is true, the violation will not be masked and it will likely appear on your record. However, there may be other good reasons for taking this course such as a reduced fine, a condition of the court or a condition for employment or auto insurance.
