Three weeks later it was time to appear in Court. Melissa waited patiently in the courtroom, with Andy by her side. He had been helpful and understanding, and had even paid her bail the night she was arrested, so that she wouldn't have to spend the night in jail. Andy had been disappointed in her, and she couldn't blame him, but Melissa knew now that she would make sure to never let this happen again.

The clerk called her case, and Andy squeezed Melissa's hand as she walked up to the table, in front of the Judge.

"Miss Johnson is charged with driving while intoxicated, and with additional citations for failure to wear a seat belt, driving with a broken tail light, and driving without insurance," the clerk said.

"How do you plead, Miss Johnson?" asked Judge Matthews.

"No contest to all charges, Your Honor," Melissa replied, hoping she didn't sound too shaky. Judge Matthews looked at Melissa as if he were a father disappointed in his daughter; she knew he was noted to be fair, but he was never easy on drunk drivers.

"Do you have anything you'd like to say about your actions?”, he asked.
