The officer made his way to Mike's car, and Mike rolled his window down. "Good morning, officer," he said heartily, trying to hide his frustration. "Good morning, sir," the officer said. "Do you know why I pulled you over?" Mike tried to look sheepish, but he knew he probably wasn't succeeding. "I guess I was speeding a bit." The officer chuckled humorlessly. "You could say that," he replied. "About 15 miles over the speed limit." "I'm sorry, officer – I've just had some trouble at work lately, and I was trying not to be late." Mike stopped as the officer held up his hand. "Sir, I'm afraid that's not all. We received two cell phone calls from other drivers reporting your license plate number. One driver reported that you illegally passed a school bus, and the other was a young woman who reported your road rage toward an elderly gentleman further up the freeway." The officer paused to take out his ticket pad. "Both reported that you were driving erratically and otherwise being a jerk on the road. We take road rage and aggressive driving seriously in this state and we’re doing what it takes to eliminate it. We’re out here watching the streets and taking cell phone calls to stop this type of driving behavior." |
