"Forget it," she said. "I'm leaving." She kissed Andy on the cheek and stumbled to her car. He still looked worried, but Melissa knew she'd be OK. She left her seat belt off, as she was already uncomfortable, and waved at him as she sped out of the parking lot. Melissa was glad to find that the traffic was much lighter now. Unfortunately, she was "too relaxed", as well. But surely she was fine to make her way home, as it wasn't really that far. At least she'd be home soon. She drove on, not noticing that she weaved a little from side to side in her lane. A few minutes later, Melissa really woke up – when suddenly she heard a siren, and realized that the flashing lights behind her meant she needed to pull over. Kicking herself for not thinking more clearly, she came to a stop on the shoulder. The officer approached her car and she rolled down her window, carefully leaning back in case the wine was still on her breath. |
