As he drove out of the neighborhood, Mike finally put his hands on the electric shaver. Steering with one hand, Mike began shaving; ignoring disapproving glances from other drivers as he passed them quickly. He barely noticed that he was weaving back and forth in his lane, until he came too close to another car and was greeted with a honking horn and a rude gesture from the other driver. Mike honked and gestured in return, then sped up to get ahead of the "other guy."
After five minutes of being distracted while shaving, Mike's thoughts turned to his boss. Mr. Jacobs had been particularly disagreeable lately because he was unhappy with the department's sales – especially Mike's. Jacobs berated him day in, day out to improve his sales, and wouldn't accept recent big layoffs in the area as a reason. Mike gritted his teeth just thinking about it, and rushed on to the freeway. "Michael, you've got to get out there and do it! Sell smarter, not harder," Mike mocked his boss out loud. Forget it – no way was he going to be late and give the guy something else to complain about.
